Landscape Construction – Overview – Lincoln, MA

After building a fieldstone retaining wall last winter at this home in Lincoln, MA, we are called back in the Spring to further improve the property.  The project is large and multi-faceted with a patio area in the back, new walkways and stone walls in the front, a new parking area, boundary wall, and drainage.

Bluestone and Gravel Patio:

We begin our work at the rear of the house.  After installing a retaining wall last winter beneath the deck, there is now a good amount of flat usable space.  There is also a rear entry to the house, a dog pen, and outdoor shower to access, as well as a nice sunny area that overlooks the back yard.

Paving this area solid would be unnecessary and costly, and perhaps a bit unsightly, so we design a plan to create a gravel area with stepping stone walkways and dispersed bluestone.   The owners have access to some reclaimed bluestone from a neighboring property, so we factor the limited bluestone into our design and is part of the inspiration for the random/dispersed design.

The area is edged with 4″ steel edging and filled with 3/4″ brownstone gravel.  The bluestone is then set into the gravel.  Cedar herb planters and storage sheds are then added to make better use of the space.

With the use of some available material and creative design, we are able to create a very attractive and usable space that now allows for storage, leisure, and access.
